You know content marketing is crucial to the success and growth of your online business, but how do you do it? How do you create content that attracts ideal customers?

Step One: Determine your ideal customer.

When it comes to creating content that will attract your ideal customers, the first step is knowing who you are trying to attract and speak to in your content.

Here are some things you'll want to know about your ideal customer:

Demographics: age, gender, martial status, personal status

Psychographics: personality, values, attitudes, interests, lifestyles, habits

Socio-economics: salary, occupation, home environment and household description, education

Online behaviors: where they spend their time, how they consume content, what they tend to buy, what they need to make a buying decision, etc.

The better you understand your customers, the better your content will be because they will feel like it was written specifically for them.

How To Create Content That Attracts Ideal Customers

Step Two: create different types of content
You want to be creating different types of content, because they all serve different purposes.

For example, educational content helps to position you as an expert and establishes your authority.

Storytelling connect helps build a deeper connection with your audience and makes you more relatable and likable.

Here are 5 different types of content you create in your business:
#1 - Educational content

This type of content helps your audience understand why your subject matter matters, why they should care, and how it's relevant to them.

For example, if you are a bookkeeper, you want to educate them on why having a bookkeeper is important, or why having someone help you with your finances is important.

With educational content, you help your audience become aware of their struggles, problems, solutions, and desired outcomes and results.

Educational content also helps you become their go-to person for your subject matter. And if you create educational blog posts, people can find you through SEO and your use of keywords as well.

#2 - Empowering content

We want to help our audience feel empowered. Help them see and feel like they can do it (because maybe they're doubting themselves), and that you can help them do it.

How can you create empowering content? Put yourself in your ideal customer's shoes.

What are they thinking right now? What are they saying to themselves? What struggles and doubts do they have?

What can you say to help them feel more at ease? Say that.

#3 - Expertise content

We buy from those we learn to help us. With expertise content, you can show people that you can be their guide and go-to.

Here are a few ways to create expertise content:

Share the places you've been featured - ex. online publications, summits, events, podcasts, etc.

Share and talk about how long you've been doing what you do and what you've learned (ex. 5 lessons I've lessoned after selling over 1,500 digital products).

Talk about common mistakes you've seen people make in your industry and how they can fix or avoid making it themselves.

Whenever someone asks you a question, turn it into a piece of content! (ex. Instagram post, reel, email, podcast episode) You can keep the question asker anonymous, unless they don't want to be.

By creating expertise content, you position yourself as someone they can go to for help in your area of expertise.

 #4 - Inspirational content

Remind your audience of their desires. What are their desires? What do they want, and why?

For example, my ideal customer doesn't want to be working all the time.

They want to spend more time with family and friends. They care about self-care because they know they can't serve and help others if their own cup is empty.

They want to create an additional source of revenue because they want more flexibility and freedom in their lives.

Now that I know their desires and the reasons behind it, I can create content for it.

#5 - Storytelling content

People want to feel connected to, relate to, and like the people and brands they buy from.

When you create storytelling content, it allows the chance for a deeper connection and relationship. Invite people into your life. Who are you? Why should they care about them? How can they relate to you? How are you adding value to their lives? What makes you, you? All good questions to ask yourself when creating storytelling content.

Tell them your story. Maybe they can relate to it.

When your friends share their stories with you, you feel more connected to them right? The same goes for our customers and business.

Here's one of my stories that I share a lot: I started creating digital products back in 2018 because I wanted to go traveling and explore the world. I knew I needed time, money, and location freedom to do it — and since you can create digital products from anywhere at any time and sell it as many times as you want, it was perfect for me.

The reason why I love traveling so much is that you get to experience other experiences, other ways of living, hear all kinds of stories and meet people you probably wouldn't back home, and have new adventures.

want to make content creation easier on yourself?
As a business owner myself, I know all of this can feel like a lot. But there are ways to make it easier! Like using Canva templates to streamline your content marketing and sales.

Step Three: Connect with your audience.

It's important to be able to connect with your audience. You want to be relatable, be inviting, and make sure you're in alignment. You can do this by doing a bit of market research and checking in with them.

This may seem like pretty obvious advice but you want to be yourself.

Don't try to be like anyone else or change who you are because you think "that's what they'll like more." When you show up as yourself, you're more likely to attract the right people to your brand and business.

Again, same thing with friendship, when you pretend to be someone you're not, you're probably not going to enjoy the friendships and relationships in your life as much — they might even feel unfulfilling or off, because you're not being yourself.

In a world where most people are pretending, it's refreshing to meet someone who's authentically themselves.

No, you might not appeal to everyone, but you know who you will attract? The people who are looking for someone like you. The people who will most likely become your ideal customers and biggest supporters
