BETWEEN ACTIVISM AND STUPIDITY

In one of the groups I belong, there is this guy that always celebrate any setback for Nigeria. Infact, he prays for the country to fail and does not miss any chance to tell us. His motive? I don't know because he lives in Nigeria and does not have any place to go if the country fails.

This first guy pales into insignificance if you consider another of my friend who was so elated by the coup in Niger that he wished same for Nigeria. In his warped imagination,  a military takeover will lower the prices of rice and petrol as if prices are fixed  by fiat.

The tragedy of it is that these two guys are in their late forties. You then wonder why people hate their country so much to the extent that they don't care if it burns and yet they don't have any other place to go.

Let me make it clear. You are duty bound to love your country. It is not optional. Your country is your identity. It is the well from which you drink from. If you have a cheap data and you start running down your country on social media, it is not activism, it is lack of wisdom.  Absence of wisdom is called stupidity.

Don't get me wrong. You are free to disagree with your leader. You can call them names. You can even curse Tinubu. Americans call Biden unprintable names daily. Canadians curse Trudeau daily. Britons curse Sunak daily but you will will never see an American that will say USA is a useless country or a Canadian that will call Canada a zoo. You should know where to draw the line. Wisdom.

Throughout 8 Years of Buhari, a section of the country called Nigeria a zoo because they hate the President. Buhari has left and Nigeria remains. The zoo exponents are now living in their zoo.

Whatever you write about Nigeria on socia media does not affect you alone, it affects over 200million people, hence we are duty bound to rebuke you. Nigeria is a house where we all live  and we will not allow any shallow  thinker to collapse the building on our heads.

For those who wants military to take over, I can excuse you if you are 35 years and below because a 35 year old man today was just 11 years old when Nigeria returned to democracy  in 1999. But someone who is in his forties and still clamouring for military is outrightly stupid.  We tend to take a lot of things for granted. The first thing a military does is to suspend the constitution and all your fundamental human rights will be suspended with it including the right to life and the right to use the social media.

You dont value what you have until you lose it. Nigeria is a great country that everybody should be proud of.

What people outside think about Nigeria is as a result of actions and inactions of Nigerians. Other nationalities will treat you the way they perceive your country. Everything is packaging. You need to package your country because nobody will do it for you.

If you run her down and you think you are catching cruise or you think you are an activist, my friend,  you are not an activist and neither are you catching cruise,  you are a shallow thinker devoid of wisdom. It is called stupidity. Period.
