Two people arrested over disappearance of mechanic in Benin City Edo

Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the sudden disappearance of a 49-year-old mechanic in Benin City.

The mechanic identified as Edward Onalise reportedly disappeared on April 12, 2025.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest of the suspects to newsmen on Tuesday in Benin City.

Yamu gave the names of the arrested suspects as Ekundayo Ohimaye and Okuze Saturday.

He said the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a full investigation to unravel the mystery surrounding the victim's disappearance.

"The case is under investigation, and we will keep the public informed as the investigation progresses," he said.

The said Edward Onalise, who specializes in repairing Mercedes Benz vehicles, around the Benin airport road, is also a commercial driver.

He was reported to have disappeared on the fateful day after he was allegedly hired by an unknown person.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity said the 49 years old mechanic was reportedly hired by an unknown person to help him convey a refrigerator to Obazangbo community but didn't return home.

He said the victim's wife, identified as Charity Onalise, after waiting for her husband, called his mobile phone several times but it was switched off.

He said the wife subsequently contacted his family members who reported the matter to the police.

The source added that the victim's vehicle was later recovered on May, 25, 2025 at a house in the Obazangbon community, a development that led to the arrest of Ekundayo Ohimaye.

He explained that the suspect reportedly told the police that he bought the said vehicle from one Okunze Saturday, who was later arrested by the police.

"Following a search on Saturday's house, the victims personal belongings such as mobile phone, radio transistor, slippers and two SIM cards were found," the source added.
