PDP in Ekiti State holds congresses amid restraining order

Despite a restraining order issued by an Ekiti State High Court, the Peoples Democratic Party held its local government and state congresses on Wednesday, describing the process as successful.

But an Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti issued an interim order halting the conduct of the congresses.

Justice E. B. Omotosho granted the order on Wednesday while ruling on an ex parte motion in suit number HAD/424M/2025, filed by a party member, Afolabi Adedeji.

The judge subsequently adjourned to May 14, 2025, for the hearing of the motion on notice.

The suit lists the PDP, the party's acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun; National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; Ekiti State Caretaker Chairman, Dare Adeleke; and the Independent National Electoral Commission as defendants.

Adedeji is seeking an interim injunction to restrain the defendants — their agents, privies, and successors-in-office — from accepting any list of individuals who did not purchase election forms, participate in the process, or emerge through a simple majority vote at the PDP ward congresses in Ekiti State.

He maintained that only delegates elected on March 15, 2025, should be recognised.
