University of Mkar, Mkar is a private faith-based university established by the Universal Reformed Christian Church (URCC) better known as the Nongu u Kristu u I Ser Sha Tar - NKST.

The apex level institution was licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on the 6th day of June 2005 to operate as a private university. It is a crown jewel institution of the NKST that is passionate about academic excellence, character development and value addition that puts God at the centre of learning.

The university has had four Vice-Chancellors since inception. The pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs) Nancy Ngunan Agbe (2005-2011); was succeeded by Prof. Emmanuel Hemen Agba (2011-2016). The third Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Iorwuese Dickson Gernah whose tenure ended in September 2021 was succeeded by Prof. Zacharys Anger Gundu on 1st September, 2021.
