Plateau issues one year notice for LG poll

The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission has announced that fresh local government elections will be conducted across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state on September 1, 2026.

The Chairman of PLASIEC, Plangji Cishak, disclosed
this on Thursday during a press conference in Jos,
explaining that the decision was in line with legal
provisions requiring a g60-day notice before the conduct of polls.

"As you are aware, the tenure of local government
officials in Plateau State is two years. The law also
stipulates that notice of elections shall be given 360
days ahead. I am very happy to inform you that we have complied with the provisions of the law," he said.
