Protesting youths on insecurity torch Emir's palace in Kwara
Youths in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Monday, set fire to the office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the palace of the Emir of Lafiagi in a protest against what they described as rising insecurity and unchecked kidnappings in the area.
Tension gripped the community following the abduction of a prominent agrochemical dealer, popularly known as Alhaji Chemical, who was reportedly taken from his residence in the Taiwo area of the town around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday.
According to an unconfirmed report, the gunmen suspected to be bandits arrived on motorcycles and overpowered local vigilantes with heavy gunfire before whisking the businessman away.
Community sources said the abduction appeared "targeted and well-coordinated" due to the victim's prominence and the calculated nature of the attack.
