The NKST College of Nursing Sciences, Mkar, originally began its journey as the School of Nursing Mkar in 1951.

However, due to the raised standards of training set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, the school faced closure in 1968. This decision was primarily due to the deficiency in qualified teaching staff that impeded meeting the new standards.
